Are you … perhaps, Japanese?

[“Anata wa … osoraku, nihonjin-desu … ka?”]

I instinctively talked in Japanese. My mother’s language.

“Wruf?!”

Wait, [Telepathy] pretty much translates my words. She wouldn’t be able to know I could speak Japanese, but she should be able to understand what I said … then why was I speaking in Japanese? For nostalgia’s sake?

[“I, too, am … a reincarnator. I died on earth and was reborn as a dragon in this world.”]

“Wruf?! Wroof!”

I could see her wagging her tail uncontrollably, with eyes showing fear but also confusion. I could relate. Being reborn into a weird world, with weird things, and in a weird body would cause anybody to ask thousands of questions.

[“Huh, what? I can’t understand you. Can’t you use your skill [Telepathy]?”]

“Wruf?”

[“You don’t? Uhh, to use it you just need to think and imagine sending a message to me. It feels like sending an E-Mail but through our thoughts … urk,”] I groaned, feeling the [Arcane Fever] stabbing my body from my overuse of mana. However, this was the first person I could speak in peace with, how could I stop here?! [“A-ah, please hold on! I will touch your paw with my tail, so please don’t be scared. I really am not here to hurt you.”]

Uhh, I nearly forgot that [Telepathy] consumed mana. She would probably kill herself if she used it with her current amount. With my control over my own mana, I was able to transfer some of it, through touch, over to somebody. It worked on the barracudas so it should work on wargs, right?

[“Ok, I am lending you a bit of my mana so try using [Telepathy] as I explained.”]

[“… Hello?”]

A voice! A soft one. A female one.

I immediately replied when I heard her voice in my head. The excitement overwhelmed my actions. I was speaking with another person! It worked.

[“Yes, hello! Hello! How are you?!”]

… However, from how she flinched back, I probably scared her. I should stay calm. [Arcane Fever] wouldn’t kill me if I calmed down. Probably.

[“Oh, sorry for scaring you again. I didn’t mean to shout like that. Are you speaking Japanese right now? [Telepathy] automatically translates what we say, so I believe you are understanding everything in Japanese, while I understand them in English.”]

[“I-I see …”]

[“Oh right, introductions! I am … You must be Saori Segawa, right? Or, uhm, Segawa Saori-san?”]

That felt a bit awkward, but what could I say? I couldn’t remember my name.

[“Yes, I am Segawa Saori … How do you know my name?”]

Hearing her confirm her name turned something on inside my head. I felt … happy. This might sound weird, but it felt like all the bad things that just happened just simply vanished.

I knew I couldn’t forget what happened, but at this moment, I felt as if the world was turning around in my favor.
